Review of St. Joseph, Michigan

I'm 27, never thought I'd love a small town...

I felt compelled to leave a comment because other young professionals have left words of St. Joe being boring, etc. I agree that St. Joe is not a great place for singles to meet others, like perhaps Chicago is, but if you have someone to share the journey with whether it's a friend or significant other, it's an absolutely wonderful place to live for so many reasons.

As someone who moved here a year after graduating from college and being the city girl and loving her nightlife, 5 years later I must say there is no place else I'd rather be. It's the big picture scene makes St. Joseph ideal. Everything you need is within an hour or two away.

The Amtrak downtown allows you to hop a train to downtown Chicago within 2 hours or less for more shopping, nightlife, Cubs game, etc. The summers in St. Joe are absolutely perfect with the lake, beach, boating and it brings loads of tourist, festivals, open bars and small sport tournaments not to mention other creative activities for all ages. The Jack Nicolas golf course they are building has made St. Joe a new target for one of the "best places to retire" but if you love golf, you will love the course no matter what the age. Lost Dunes is another top golf course in the area just 10 minutes away on the water. I saw Mike Ditka last trip there! There are two Casinos within 45 minutes if you want a change of pace. There is a huge outlet mall in Michigan City 45 minutes away. You can catch a Notre Dame Football game or find virtually any shop in South Bend just 35 minutes away.

If you want to raise a family it's perfect as well. I got married here and just had my first child two months ago. Great daycare facilities, school districts and activities for kids like the Curious Kids Museum, Art Center and Build-A-Bear downtown. No matter the age, there is nowhere else I'd rather call home!
